Hampton Downs winter series Round 3
Sunday 13th August 2011

This fell on the day after the VIP Pet foods enduro. I was still a bit sore but looking forward to driving the Formula Renault again.

The day started out wet but dry enough to run slicks (only just). It just made it more difficult to get heat into the tyres.

As in round one Kenny Smith in his powerful Ralt was going to be a winner and Tom Tom Alexander who is running Kenny's number 2 Ralt would have a power and tyre advantage over me.

Qualifying;
Kenny couldn't start his car and an electrical problem lead him to drive a Formula Ford instead. Tom couldn't handle the rain as well as me so I took pole with Tom P2 followed but about 5 Formula Suzuki's and 3 Formula Fords.

Races 1, 2, 3
These were all held in light rain or very damp conditions and I managed good wins in each, followed by Tom or the Suzuki driven by Cain Lobb.

Race4
Dry track gave Tom more confidence and it became a good battle with me overtaking him on corners and him powering past me on the straights. He is definitely improving as a driver and went on to narrowly win race4 with me 2nd and Cain Lobb 3rd.

Conclusion
Nice to drive a fast single seater again. Had fun and sharpened my skills which is what's it all about. Formula Libre, mixed unmatched single seaters are usually a bit predictable but I had fun.

Next single seater race will probably be round 1 of the South Is Formula Ford series at Ruapuna. I want to support the South IS club as they are a great bunch of guys, but am unlikely to do the whole series.

Round 4 of the Winter series also in September.
A Supercar test in Australia over the next 3 weeks should be fun, I will let you know how that goes.

Cheers
Andre
