Townsville 400 AHR Report

  • July 11, 2013

6/7th July 2013   Flew to the Gold coast 4 days prior to catch up and help load up. The team have just hired two engineers, one for each car however only one was available for this round. Wally Walburn has many years of experience with Supercar engineering and the team spent much acquiring his services. Wally is one of those quiet, very effective, and respectful people you can’t help liking. Off to Townsville on Thursday to set up and do the ritual track walk. Winter temps around 24c.   Second time at Townsville after Carrera Cup last year so I felt comfortable. The circuit...

Australian F3 @ Hidden Valley raceway. AHR Report

  • July 1, 2013

Flew for 9 hours, Auckland Sydney Darwin. Alistair Wooten and I were picked up by Erebus and whisked straight to the track to meet the crew, help set up, and do my track walk. Really friendly outfit, nice facilities. F3 is a new thing for Erebus and they have no previous data. A bit of a learning curve for both me and the engineer. Alistair proved to be a real asset.  At days end we headed for the hotel which Erebus hadn’t seen prior to booking. The size of the cockroaches was mind blowing….about the size of mice! Thought I might get eaten so Alistair and I slept with our clothes on..including...

V8st Round 3 @ Pukekohe May 25/26

  • July 1, 2013

Nice to operate from home for another round. My first  experience at the reconfigured track. About half  the field had managed to get race laps prior to this meeting and I was to do the 6 hour to do just that myself but, the enduro got cancelled. Weather was bad all weekend with continual changes from light rain to sun and back before the track dried. This was to prove a recipe for carnage as we have a choice of only hard slicks or very soft wets. There is a gap in the middle where a cold wet/damp track catches us without an ideal tyre choice. PRACTICE I seem to have a jinx set in place...

SUPERCAR DVS ROUND 2. Barbagallo Perth 3/5 May 2013

  • July 1, 2013

After the transporter left the Gold Coast for Perth, Josh Hunter my team mate and I had 3 days to get our apartment kitchen sorted, so we could cook. Slowly starting to feel like home away from home. Flew to Perth with the team on Wednesday and spent Thursday unloading the transporter after its very long journey through the heart of Australia. It used about $2500 worth of fuel! Barbagallo is a flowing 2.4 Km long rather narrow track. It has 7 technical corners and is plagued by fine silica sand blown onto it from the surrounding dry countryside. Any tyres used here become near useless thereafter...

SUPERCAR DVS LAUNCH AND TEST DAY 17/18 April 2013 Surfers Paradise.

  • July 1, 2013

I flew in early to help the team clean, polish, and prepare for the big day. I attach the team EZI Finance press release which covers the launch well.  Maurie Pickering spared nothing to make it a very special event. The formal lunch at the Marriot Hotel was attended by 80 to 100 guests and I again made some valuable contacts. Maurie is a good strategic planner and had invited many people which will be key to moving the team forward. He has his eyes fixed on the main game. Josh Hunter and I now have permanent lodgings on the Gold Coast, had to go and buy household stuff and set up.   Dad...

V8Supertourers round 2. Ruapuna 10th March 2013

  • July 1, 2013

This was another two day event with practice and qualification on Saturday and three races on Sunday. Some franchisees like this format and others detest it. The idea is to save money by not allowing teams to set up until Friday thus saving one day of accommodation, food etc. I flew to Christchurch on Friday afternoon.   PRACTICE I was 6th fastest and missed much of the session due to brushing a tyre wall which looked real bad but in fact caused only cosmetic damage. Needed a new mirror and destroyed all the signage down the driver’s side of the car. In Practice 2  I was the second...

AHR Report. V8st. Hampton Downs Feb 15th/17th

  • July 1, 2013

Program for this round was something new with qualifying and three races on Sunday. The idea was to save teams one day of accommodation etc and also concentrate the spectators into one big race day. FRIDAY/SATURDAY Set up and some casual testing on Friday. Woke up early on Saturday and travelled to the track for the season launch breakfast. First session was at 10am and second at 3pm, I couldn't wait to get out there and see what my car felt like as I had swapped teams. Unfortunately we only had bad tyres to use for testing so struggled a little finished up P7 in both test sessions. The time...

AHR REPORT. CARRERA CUP. Final round. 1st/2nd Dec 2012

  • July 1, 2013

Arrived on Thursday and spent the day setting up. owing to budget restraints we were down to 1 crew member, Todd Bickerton my engineer. Homebush is a circuit formed using the roads surrounding Olympic Park. This was the site of the Sydney Olympics and is very impressive with many huge stadiums, halls, hotels and, parkland. the circuit is basically square with 2 major chicanes and no corner tighter than 90 degrees. it has a variety of surface types making it tricky in the rain and, is rather narrow in most parts making overtaking difficult using Porsche minimal contact rules. It is 3.5 Km long...
