Heimgartner set to tackle the streets of Adelaide in new Mustang
Andre Heimgartner will enter his third consecutive year with Kelly Racing and is set to hit the streets of Adelaide for the Superloop Adelaide 500 this weekend in the newly built NED Racing Mustang.
The Kelly Racing team completed a compulsory BP Ultimate SuperTest at The Bend Motorsport Park on Tuesday 18th February along with the entire Supercars field, which proved a successful day for the team. Heimgartner finished up second over-all for the session and although teams weren’t competing at 100%, it did put some confidence in the 24-year old.
“The test day yesterday went really well,” admitted Heimgartner.
“We expected to encounter a few more issues being a brand-new car and also with running the new super-shocks, but it was a really positive day. Probably the best outcome that we could have expected to be honest.
“To come second over-all for the session was pretty good. It’s obviously nothing to brag about, but certainly puts some confidence in us – especially after the big change we’ve just undergone.”
The NED Racing driver’s history around the Adelaide street circuit has seen him finish 13th in both races last year, an achievement the #7 driver is hoping to better this year.
“I finished inside the top 15 last year and so this year I’ll certainly be looking to finish at least inside the top 10,” admits Heimgartner.
“I enjoy this round, it’s always lots of fun. The atmosphere is great and I love this style of track. It’s fast flowing and there are no room for errors.
“The car certainly has the speed and I’m confident we can have a successful weekend.”
The Virgin Australia Supercars hit the track for the first practice session on Thursday 20th February, 3:55pm local time.
